Convenience Around the Clock: Alcorn’s Campus Service Station Provides Students With 24/7 Access

For college students, finding time to take care of everyday needs can be challenging when classes, assignments and other responsibilities fill their schedules. At Alcorn State University (ASU), the campus service station (formerly known as Jack’s) offers students a convenient way to get gas, grab a snack and pick up everyday essentials without having to travel off campus. The service station is located adjacent to the Industrial Technology building.

With gas available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the service station gives students the flexibility to refuel whenever they need to, even during late-night hours. For students who may need gas after a long day or before an early morning trip, having a station on campus provides an option close to where they live and study.

The station also features modernized gas pumps that accept contactless payments, including tap-to-pay. This allows students to pay for their fuel directly at the pump without needing to enter a store or handle cash. Combined with its round-the-clock availability, the payment technology offers students another level of convenience when stopping for gas.

ASU Biology major Nhoa Moore, stated, ” I think that this version of the service station is very inventive and convenient for the student’s needs.”

The station’s location is especially beneficial considering that the nearest store is approximately 15 to 20 minutes away. For students who need gas or something to eat, traveling off campus can require additional time and planning. Having these options available on campus can make it easier for students to handle everyday errands around their academic schedules.

Mikeyunna Harlson, another ASU Biology major, stated, “I stop in here all of the time to pick up things that I may need to help make my day easier.”

In addition to its gas pumps, the station features a contactless interior filled with a variety of vending machines. Students can browse the available options and purchase items without interacting with a traditional cashier. This setup gives students another way to access food and snacks while on campus.

The combination of tap-to-pay gas pumps and contactless vending machines creates a streamlined experience for students. Whether they need to fill their tanks late at night or grab something to eat between classes, they can access these services in one location without making the drive to a store off campus.
