On November 4th from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom, the Student Health and Well-being Department hosted a free Health and Wellness Fair. This event highlighted health education, wellness resources and community connections.
The event’s theme was “Harvesting Health and Wellness: Growing Stronger Together.” Landon Badon, a participant at the Fair, stated, “This is an event that I for one am glad that I participated in. Remaining healthy and living a long life is a priority of mine and to have these health care practitioners giving these free tests to check your health in indeed a blessing.”
More than 12 vendors participated in the event, touching on different areas of health and wellness. Some of the participating organizations included Prime Health and Wellness, Claiborne Prevention Services and Open Up Mississippi. Along with these organizations, Alcorn State
University Nursing students were also present. They shared their knowledge as they participated in health screening-related activities with other students. Byron Smith Jr., a member of Health Educators Reaching Other Students (H.E.R.O.S.), stated that the Fair provided students with an opportunity to learn more about the resources offered by the institution, such as therapy, counseling services, HIV testing and rapid COVID-19 testing.
“I think it’s a good way to show that the university cares about its students and all of the wonderful resources that they have,” Smith said.
